The U.S. citizens most affected by these steps would be the elderly, those with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart ailments, people in nursing homes, the disabled, the poor and the very young. Without reimbursement, many long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics and home care agencies could end up closing, exacerbating the problems we currently have with lack of health care in rural areas of West Virginia.

If enacted, people will suffer, people will die. I believe this is a bigger issue than immigration, and our Legislature and Gov. Patrick Morrisey should not support President Donald Trump and his unofficial adviser-in-chief, Elon Musk, in undermining the health care system.

The system could be improved and should be expanded, not destroyed.
