Kanawha County Commission approves study to find new residential development sites

The information will be presented to developers in Columbus, Lexington, the Eastern Panhandle, Richmond and other cities in the region.

Commissioner Lance Wheeler said the county is in a “housing crisis� with prices rising due to a lack of new construction.

Wheeler said the study would look at unincorporated areas such as Sissonville, Cross Lanes and the eastern side of the county to find undeveloped land close to utilities.

With the Advantage Valley study projecting 5,300 new manufacturing jobs in the region in the next five years, Kanawha County is expected to see a growth of 700 households, Tennant said.

Also Tuesday, commissioners:

• Approved the levy rate with no increases from last year
• Approved $44,000 for concrete to be used at Cedar Grove’s baseball field

City Council also approved the levy rate with no increases on Tuesday.
