Bethany Meighen, who graduated from and previously served in several leadership roles at the University of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, has been named Concord University’s next president.
The search for Concord’s 13th president drew more than 60 applicants from across the country, according to a news release from the university announcing the hire. Finalists visited campus in late March, meeting with students, faculty, alums and community stakeholders.
The university’s Board of Governors unanimously approved her appointment during its April 15 meeting. Meighen will officially assume the role on July 1.
Meighen currently serves as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs for the University of North Carolina System. She has also served UNC as director for student development and as an advisor to the UNC System association of student governments.
Meighen earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä before obtaining her doctorate in Education from North Carolina-Wilmington.
At the University of ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, she served as Dean of Student Life, Director of Parent and Alumni Relations, and Director of Marketing, according to the release. In those roles, she focused on enhancing community, alumni and parent engagement while also working to improve student retention and supervising a broad range of student organizations and the student code of conduct.
In a statement, Meighen said she’s looking forward to bringing those skills back to support another Mountain State campus.
“Concord University is making a meaningful difference in the lives of its students, the surrounding communities, and beyond — a mission I’m eager to use all my energy and experience to support and advance,†Meighen said.
Current Concord President Kendra Boggess will stay on for one month as a consultant to support Meighen’s transition.
In a statement, Boggess hailed Meighen is a “collaborative, data-driven decision maker dedicated to making higher education more accessible.â€
