After 11 seasons, Anita King is stepping down as the volleyball coach at Herbert Hoover.
Citing medical reasons, King met with the Huskies players then submitted a letter of resignation before announcing her decision on the Hoover volleyball Facebook page on April 8.
“It was a tough decision to make, but I can’t give 100% to our team at the same time prioritizing my upcoming knee replacement surgery and rehabilitation afterwards,†King said in the letter.
In the post, King said she would continue to support Huskies volleyball and said she would miss conversations with coaches at other schools.
King led Hoover to the Class AAA state championship match and a 49-7-1 record in 2024. The Huskies lost the title match to Bridgeport at the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Coliseum & Convention Center.
In speaking with the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Gazette-Mail, King said she does not anticipate a return to coaching at the high school level, but once she has healed from surgery she would be interested in coaching youth or travel volleyball.
“I absolutely love the game, but the physical demands are too much,†King said. “I just need to focus on my health at this time.â€
The Hoover coach isn’t the only change among the coaching ranks in the Kanawha Valley or elsewhere in the Mountain State.
Greenbrier East volleyball’s Matt Sauvage announced his resignation on April 7, according to published reports. Sauvage had been with the Spartans for 21 years, 18 as head coach.
