About a dozen hardy fishing fanatics turned out Saturday morning in a steady rain to help with a trout stocking event at the Elk River Public Access area in Clendenin.
With the help of the volunteers, officials from Indian Lake Fisheries in Pinch released 500 pounds of West Virginia golden trout (also called palomino trout) and rainbow trout the river. Another 500 pounds of trout were stocked at Blue Creek and Elk River later in the day.
Trout season is open year-round in West Virginia. All anglers 15 years and older are required to have a West Virginia fishing license and a valid form of identification while fishing. A trout stamp is required for catching trout. Licenses and stamps can be purchased at 156 retail locations across the state or at .
