A Huntington woman was stopped Saturday by Transportation Security Administration officers at West Virginia International Yeager Airport with a loaded firearm among her carry-on items. The 9mm handgun was loaded with 19 bullets, including one in the chamber.
TSA officers immediately notified the police, who responded to the checkpoint and confiscated the gun, according to a TSA news release. Police also cited the woman on a weapons charge. Airport police would not provide any information about the woman or the weapons charge against her.
This is the second handgun in eight days confiscated at Yeager Airport, and third this year.
Guns are not permitted to be carried into or through the security checkpoint. The woman could face a civil penalty from the TSA, which can reach a maximum of $15,000 for carrying a weapon at an airport.
Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms only in checked baggage. Firearms must be unloaded packed in a hard-sided, locked case, which should be taken to an airline check-in counter to be declared. The TSA details how to properly travel with a firearm on its .
