Marquis Jermayne Goodman, 24, pleaded guilty on Feb. 20, 2024, to two counts of second-degree murder in the October 2021 slayings of two women on ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä’s West Side. Goodman was sentenced to 80 years in prison on May 6, 2024.
A Detroit man pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of second-degree murder in the October 2021 deaths of two women on ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä’s West Side.
Marquis Jermayne Goodman, 24, faces 10 to 40 years on each charge, according to Judge Ken Ballard.
Bria Nicole White, 26, and Kytiana Belcher, 22, were found on Hunt Avenue and Grant Street, respectively, after police received a shots-fired call. The two died where they were found. Goodman was arrested about a week later.
White was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 1:30 a.m. lying on a sidewalk near the intersection of Grant Street and Hunt Avenue. Belcher, who police said lived with White and was in a romantic relationship with her, was found shot to death hours later around 8 a.m. in the backyard of a home a half-block away.
Police said they believe each was shot around the same time.
Kanawha County Assistant Prosecutor George Sitler said Goodman made it clear in a police interview that he had committed the shooting, although he did not specifically say he shot the women.
According to Sitler, Goodman had spent most of the day with the victims and told the police he was set up to be robbed and “did what he did because he had to do it.†The motive still remains unclear and appears to be drug related, Sitler said.
A Snapchat video on Belcher’s phone from 15 minutes before the shooting showed a man matching Goodman’s description wearing a Michael Myers mask and walking with the victims.
Goodman is to be sentenced April 29.
