It’s going to be a blast from the past at the 2024 ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Sternwheel Regatta.
Vanilla Ice, Shaggy, Montgomery Gentry and a Beatles tribute band will headline the July festival.
Members of the Regatta Commission made the announcement Monday afternoon. Acts will perform at Haddad Riverfront Park.
Wednesday, July 3 – Shaggy, a reggae artist
Thursday, July 4 – The Fab Four, a Beatles tribute band
Friday, July 5 – Montgomery Gentry featuring Eddie Montgomery, the surviving member of the country duo
Saturday, July 6 – I Love the 90s Tour featuring Vanilla Ice, Treach of Naughty by Nature, Tone Loc and Young MC
Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin said putting together the lineup took months of calling artists, seeing if they were available and making sure the city fit with their tour.
“It's not [about] what I personally like or what our board personally thinks. We have to listen to you,†Goodwin said. “The crowd tells us, and our constituents tell us what they want by showing up and investing in their time and, quite frankly, their expendable income.â€
Goodwin said that during the Flo Rida concert last year — the most popular concert of the 2023 Regatta — she saw parents and children singing and dancing together.
She said she saw parents and children in the crowd together. This year, Saturday night's I Love the 90s Tour lineup will try to replicate that environment, she said.
“It was that beautiful mix of younger kids [who] knew the lyrics of the songs and parents knew the lyrics of the songs,†she said. “Mom brought you, but she brought you for a reason because she also liked the music that was playing. That’s a little special sauce that we found out last year that we really needed to duplicate.â€
Tim Brady, president and CEO of the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the last two years of the Regatta have had a combined economic impact of $68.7 million.
