BARBOURSVILLE — The Clay Center is taking a trip, making its first stop at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville Oct. 30-Nov. 16 as part of a new Clay2Go mobile exhibit.
Working with Cabell County Schools, the Clay2Go exhibit gives students in grades three through eight a chance to expand their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics principles in fun, interactive ways, Cabell County Schools Family and Community Engagement Facilitator Ashley Stephens said.
While the exhibit is at the Huntington Mall, the district’s fourth and fifth grade students, along with talented and gifted students in grades 1-3, will take trips to interact with the Clay2Go exhibit.
Cabell County is the first district getting to experience Clay2Go, and Superintendent Ryan Saxe said he is proud for the county to be the first host and excited for the learning opportunities ahead.
“We believe in fostering critical thinking through hands-on experiences, and this initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to education,†Saxe said. “The opportunity to engage with science, technology, engineering and mathematics through play, experimentation and problem-solving is invaluable for our students.â€
The exhibit will also be open to the public from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in conjunction with the Huntington Mall’s Full Steam Ahead Family Fun Day, Stephens said.
In a release issued by Cabell County Schools Thursday, Clay Center President and CEO Al Najjar said the Clay Center is proud to offer the Clay2Go exhibit to public schools throughout the state, as it will move to other counties after leaving Cabell County.
“We believe every child in West Virginia deserves to learn about the scientific wonders of our world, regardless of whether they can make it to our permanent location in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä,†Najjar said in the release.
The release states students will also have additional experiences with interactive science stations including VEX Robotics, Sphero robot mazes, Rokenbok building sets, straw rockets and a children’s innovation project thanks to a partnership with the June Harless Center at Marshall University.
A kickoff party for the exhibit will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in the JC Penney concourse at the Huntington Mall.
