West Virginia State University (WVSU) canceled its career and employment expo in the James C. Wilson Student Union in Institute, the university said in a news release Thursday.
"Due to the severe weather and ongoing power outages in our region and on campus the Career and Employment Expo scheduled for Thursday, April 4, (today) at West Virginia State University has been canceled," the release said. "This event will be rescheduled."
West Virginia International Yeager Airport hosting TSA PreCheck enrollment event
West Virginia International Yeager Airport will host a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck enrollment event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through April 12.
The pop-up enrollment event will take place in baggage claim and is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents, the airport said in a news release.
The in-person enrollment requires that applicants provide proof of identity, proof of citizenship, fingerprints and a photo. The cost is $78 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program.
Following the in-person enrollment appointment, most applicants receive their Known Traveler Number (KTN) in three to five days. The KTN number must be added to flight reservations to enjoy TSA PreCheck benefits, the release said.
Down Syndrome Network of W.Va. opens in South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä
Down Syndrome Network of West Virginia (DSNWV) recently opened its first brick and mortar office at 612 D St. in South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä.
Ashley Orndorff, executive director of DSNWV, said during a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 21, the mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with Down syndrome by providing information, resources and support to families and professionals. She also wants to promote awareness and acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome.
The DSNWV is a nonprofit organization established in 2002 by concerned parents of children with Down syndrome.
“The date for the ribbon cutting is fitting because March 21 is also World Down Syndrome Day, recognized as such as a day to celebrate the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome that causes Down syndrome,†Orndorff said.
The South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Chamber of Commerce, the South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Convention & Visitors Bureau and South ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä Mayor Frank Mullens, Jr. also participated in the event.
Optimum opens second ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä store
Optimum hosted a grand opening event on March 22 for its second retail location in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä.
The new location at 226 RHL Boulevard at Southridge is a new state-of-the-art retail store offering a modern and interactive in-store experience, according to Elton Hart, vice president and general manager of Optimum Mid Atlantic.
“Optimum is also proud to have made significant investments into our operations and presence in West Virginia," said Hart in a news release. “We continue to invest in our entire product portfolio, including upgrading more communities to 1GB internet service.â€
Optimum’s other retail store is located at 5707 MacCorkle Ave SE, Suite 60, in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä.
