The West Virginia University Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute have welcomed Nestor F. Dans, M.D., a cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery, to their surgical staff.
Dans will practice at Thomas Hospitals in ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä, serving patients in Southern West Virginia, beginning early this year.
Dans’ hiring in August 2023 followed the March 2023 announcement that WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals, in partnership with WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg and the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute, will expand its cardiac surgery services in response to the unmet needs and high demand for advanced cardiac surgery in the ÂÒÂ×ÄÚÉä area and Southern West Virginia.

Dans, a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, brings nearly 30 years of experience to the hospital system. His clinical areas of expertise include coronary bypass surgery, aortic and mitral valve replacement, and robotic thoracic procedures. Dans brings a passion for providing quality patient care and stays current on minimally invasive techniques to treat heart disease.

Dans received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed a general surgery residency at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He completed fellowships in trauma, critical care, cardiovascular surgery and cardiopulmonary transplantation, and thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
Dans is a Diplomate of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
